The Brief
I was prompted by my professor to create mock-up versions of a news release and a fact sheet for a real company in Oregon within a 1-hour time limit. I was given all the information needed to do the work. The professor would change the dates, the spelling of certain words, and the grammar to try to throw me off my game throughout the process. If I missed something, it would be reflected in my grade, showcasing impatience and a disregard for fact-checking. Key parts of the task included:
- Open with the most important information - your summary lede
- Walk through the details, from most to least important info
- Incorporate a quote
- Let folks know how they can find more information
- Create a new boilerplate for the company using your own words
